LONDON - Michael Phelps opened the defense of his title in the 200-meter individual medley at the London Games on Wednesday, hours after becoming the most-decorated Olympian ever with his 19th career medal.
Phelps and Ryan Lochte will go head-to-head in an individual final for the second and last time in these Games on Thursday in the 200 IM. Lochte finished with the best time in the semifinals Wednesday night, swimming 1 minute, 56.13 seconds. Phelps had the third-best time, 1:57.11.

LONDON Twitter can be dangerous to your Olympic well-being. For the second time in the Games’ opening four days, an athlete has been bounced out of here because of an unseemly 140-character blast from a Twitter accounts.
The latest guilty party is Swiss soccer player Michel Morganella, who was sent packing by the Swiss Olympic Committee after he reportedly posted a racially offensive tweet about South Koreans following Switzerland’s 2-1 defeat against them on Sunday.
“Michel Morganella has discriminated against, insulted and violated the dignity of the South Korean football team as well as the South Korean people,’’ Swiss chef de mission Gian Gilli said in a statement. He said that while the committee felt Morganella had been provoked and had publicly apologized, the IOC’s code of ethics, as well as the ethics charter of the SOC, had been violated.
In other Twitter news, Sanya Richards-Ross, who won gold in track relays at Athens and Beijing and will compete here at 200 and 400 meters, said several of the track athletes were upset and had started a Twitter campaign about Olympic rule No. 40 that prohibits athletes from promoting sponsors that aren’t officially connected with the Summer Games.

Lance Armstrong refiles lawsuit against USADA
Armstrong's civil action has been dramatically reduced from the 113 pages filed on Monday to a more concise 25.
Monday's initial claim was dismissed just seven hours after being filed, with judge Sam Sparks ruling that it contained "allegations" which were separate to the case and therefore "the Court must presume, were included solely to increase media coverage of this case, and to incite public opinion against Defendants".
In the submission, Armstrong claims that the USADA does not have the right to charge, sanction or strip him of his seven Tour de France titles.
USADA has given Armstrong a deadline of Saturday to enter into arbitration to contest the charges, or accept sanctions which include removing his titles and a lifetime ban.
Armstrong also contends USADA's activity violates his constitutional rights and tortiously interferes with his contract with Union Cycliste Internationale, the governing body with which he has an agreement. He is also seeking damages from USADA.

Birthday boy Michael Phelps, edges Ryan Lochte in 200 IM
OMAHA – The big question before the Olympic trials was if Michael Phelps could beat Ryan Lochte. Now, after knocking off his rival for a second time in three tries Saturday night, the question returns to a more familiar refrain.

Can he win eight gold medals in back-to-back Games? Bob Bowman, his coach, said it's a crazy question to ask, that such a thing is too much to ask of anyone. But Phelps, on his 27th birthday, fresh off another stirring win against Lochte, was willing to entertain the crazy question. After all, he is on course to qualify in the same events in London that he entered in Beijing.

James had 26 points, 11 rebounds and 13 assists, leading the Heat in a 121-106 rout of the Oklahoma City Thunder on Thursday night to win the NBA Finals in five games.
